BBBbbbbbbbrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

After a whirlwind few weeks, Russ & I are finally back in ol' London town. I am sat in my Lovely, lovely studio (I missed you) in tights, leggings, ugg boots, jumpers x 2 and a big scarf, sipping a steaming mug of tea, I am very cosy indeed. I have changed the blog header to a snowy picture temporarily, I know all you Brits are so over the snow, but please bare with me just for a few weeks. I am REALLY enjoying it. Russ wanted to buy a Christmas tree the other day and every time I leave the house I think ' yum it smells like bonfire night' !
We wrapped up warm the other day and stomped across the Heath & any excuse to meet up with friends in pubs with log fires and fairy lights are grabbed.
Saying all that I can't quite believe our Australian jaunt is all over, it was wonderful. I was first introduced to Etsy in Sydney 3 years ago & I thought 'I'll have ago at that'. So to return 3 years on & to wander into my favourite shops & see my art work there was incredible, it makes me think anything is possible with Belle & Boo & that's exciting.

Things I will miss about Australia

Blue skies, cute house, white picket fences, places to sit on front porches, banana bread (I sneaked this one in at the airport before getting on the plane !) retro cars, this building I walked past every day, our local cinema, picking up gorgeous magazines & discovering Belle & Boo are in them & of course all my lovely friends old and new.

I am sure I will bore you with many more photos as nostalgia sinks in but for now, I am all excited about receiving packages like this

which reveal goodies like this

oohhhhhhh SO many exciting things to share with you in the next few months. If you would like to receive our newsletter, which gives you a heads up on what's new & discount offers for the shop, please email us at subscribe@belleandboo.com, or click the Belle & Boo News button in the left hand column of this blog.

  2. I simply love the beauty of it. I am always struck my a new image that makes my heart stop. It is simply breath taking to see such lovely imagery that reminds me of what I love about childhood - the playing, the joy and the magic.

    Thanks for the inspiration!

  5. Hi Mandy, it is funny when you are away from England how much it all feels so special when you return. I totally understand Ross's words about Bonfire Night! I'm still enjoying the snow, we had a heap more yesterday which I put photos of on my Blog if you fancy a bit more :) I LOVE everything about Belle & Boo, they remind me of my childhood exploring the countryside, feeding the lambs on the farm next door. They also remind me of a wonderful painting of a little girl under a tree that I had in my room everytime I visited my Granny. You have a very special talent. Great to have you back in the UK and congrats about those magazine features. That dress is the cutest, I can just imagine my little 2 year old niece swirling around in it. Hugs, Catherine xx

  6. I love so many things! I love Boo, of course, but I think mostly I just love the sweetness of it all, the way you capture the most beautiful moments of childhood, moments that I read about in children's books from 50 or 100 years ago, and things I see in children I know today. Hooray for you!

    xx Penny

  7. How Kind!

I love Belle and Boo's nostalgic sweet innocence. It is all you want childhood to be for our children now.

  8. I love looking at your pirate pic in my little boys room everyday. I love that he points out the tree, and I love that he says night night to it.

and on a different note.... I cant believe you came half way around the world and stayed in MY SUBURB! That means I may have walked past you recently, been in the same cafe or park as you...that seems really bizarre???
    Internet people are real????

....first wrote amazing talented internet people but decided it sounded sucky...but thats what I meant :)

  11. It sounds like you had a fantastic trip. Having not lived here for too long, I am still captivated by any little bits of snow we get!! It really is amazing!

I think I have said it before...but what I love about Belle and Boo (and you!) is the way you are able to capture those special little moments.

Welcome back to this half of the globe!

  13. I love the way Belle and Boo captures the innocence and magic of of childhood. We are the very grateful owners of five of your prints (four from the Super princess series and Ava's Tea Party). Everyone who sees them asks us where we got them from. They are hanging in my little girls room, over here in Australia.

I'm off to sign up for your newsletter.

  20. It looks like you guys had an incredible time down there :) You know, that's probably the best way to handle snow, live someplace warm for the first half of winter and come back to the snowy terrain for the second half!

All of the excitement over here is intoxicating!

  21. What I love about Belle and Boo? I think the better question is what do I not love about it?!

    - it just speaks to me about simpler times of childhood... its easy to get lost in it

    - but mostly b/c it reminds me of my own daughter... :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh I love Belle and Boo for many reasons, but I think the main one is that it takes me back to a different era, that sense of nostalgia is so overwhelming and comforting. Even if our childhoods were nothing like those of the gorgeous little Belle and Boo characters, we all wish they were!

  30. It is so GOOD to see you back again. Next time you come to Oz, come and visit Brisbane!! I just recieved my [daughter's] lets hugs dress in the mail last week. Its so lovely! And she looks super cute in it!!

I'm not sure exactly what it is that I love about your drawings, I think it must be my longing to never grow up. They just somehow touch my heart!

  31. I love the way Belle and Boo reminds me how to look at the world through the eyes of a child. Thank you:)

  32. I love your Belle and Boo designs.. they are just so so cute!! I like that they look like images from Milly Molly Mandy too (which I loved to read as a little hild) ...so I guess mostly it's that they remind me of my childhood (and innocence. lol) :D

glad you enjoyed your trip to Australia...and I'm sure you're loving that snow and not missing this heat!!

  33. Isn’t nostalgia the bomb!!! This dress stirs up a lot of gorgeous childhood memories for me – including adventures with neighbourhood kids that sometimes resembled Enid Blyton’s tales (with a faraway tree to boot) - and mulberry stained clothes, dreams and aspirations to be the lead singer from Abba, and always a safe retreat to loving parents at night who made sure that my life was nothing short of brilliant! If I could make just one wish come true for my daughter it would be to live her childhood in a similar (yet, still her own) way....and of course, have her very own Belle and Boo dress!!!

  34. i love Belle and Boo because it reminds me of my own childhood. It also enables me to share the images of childhood in my home.

  35. Belle and Boo are a neverending life story - a story that keeps getting better and yet the characters do not age. Akin to the story of Peter Pan (in a way), Belle and Boo make me feel young - allowing me to never grow up. I hope one day I will have every print you've done and then I want a wall of those pictures in white frames - in an office - a place to be creative. I actually just bought this dress for a gal I know who is having a littel girl - but I'd love another - for someone else- Maybe just to go give it to a random person I don't really know who is preggo - I can ask around work for someone who is - and then surprise them. That'd be fun.

  37. My favorite thing about the belle and boo site, besides the beautiful colors and artwork, the London clock! My husband and I went on holiday to England last summer and going to the website makes me remember what a great time we had (he even took me for high tea at the Dorchester!). Looking at the website makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I just can't picture London with all that snow!

  38. Welcome!!! I love this tape and the cushions!!!!
    (sorry about my poor english)

  39. Because it makes me smile, even on this snowy cold day!

  40. It's hard to say exactly why I love Belle and Boo--so much sweetness, those fleeting moments that stop my heart when I witness them in real life--my daughter standing in contemplation, holding her dolly close, just as Belle holds Boo. It's wonderful how you capture that!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I love that it captures the cutest parts of children's dream worlds. They can rely to the little stories (that you create in simply one and every picture :)) no matter where they are from. For me I wish I was a kid again - at least in mind - looking at your work :) You are wonderful and so is your creative work!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I love Belle and Boo because it depicts children, especially little girls, as children, not small adults or little floozies as so much in our culture does today. The images are sweet and tender and just so beautiful, capturing the true nature of childhood. Thank you for sharing Belle and Boo with us :o)

  43. I love that belle and boo is handmade. Belle and Boo makes me feel happy and you're so humble about your work! I like it!

  44. I love Belle & Boo for the inspiration behind living your dream of creating beautiful illustrations, artwork and clothing amongst so much. That you find so much beauty in the world and share your vision through your art work. That you appreciate life where ever you are and that you can be so inspired wether you are in Australia or back home in England. I adore the prints I have purchased from you and look forward to new purchases for my pending baby! Like so many Thanks for the inspiration too. Lil xox

  46. I love the simplicity of your designs, the way they are sweet but not cloying - my girls ar now too big for Belle & Boo clothes (sniff) but I have a brand new niece.
I saw the new mugs at Top Drawer - beautiful.

  48. Well, there really isn't enough space to tell you how much I love little Belle and Boo. I think the thing that I like most about them is that they remind me so much of Winnie the Pooh. Such a special friendship is rare indeed!

    ReplyDelete
  49. This was such a neat post.

Hmmm... What do I love...? What's not to love? It's hard to pinpoint just one thing, and I guess you really haven't asked for only one, so here goes nothing!

I love the innocence and sweetness of each piece. I love how unassuming each of the characters are. I love that you draw for both girls AND boys!!! I love that Belle & Boo seems like a world lost in time to me. That sounds corny, but it's true. It reminds me of when I was a little girl and how fantastic and carefree things were, and how my imagination could have no bounds.

  50. For me Belle and Boo flash me back into my childhood to some of my happiest memories. I love your work, my kids love your work, my friends love your work! You're not missing much in Australia today. It's a rainy old Valentines Day around here!

  53. Welcome back Mandy!
Yep, it's cold, but I'm enjoying the winter a lot. I moved back few months ago to Europa, and how much I have missed the 4 seasons. So, I understand you. Hahaha, the christmas story sounds great, I have rescued 2 christmas trees from the streets for the garbage. They were in a pot and I felt very pity for them. Don't like to know how many dogs already peed on them:-(
I see, Australia seems similar like some parts of Florida. The houses and porches they're cute, like Gainesville areas...Yeah, I'm missing blue skies, too and more sun-shine...

Well, I like your illustrations, because I like the old fashion way of your drawings. Simple and direct...And they seems so honest and have character. They open a bit of "your" past (guess a lot of people see that way), I see myself climbing on trees and be a bit shy, hehehe...Sorry, can't explain the way I feel or see "Belle and Boo" in English well, my English is bad....
Enjoy the winter!!!! and the cozy time....
